Warm winter beanies for our patients

Day_Care_Beanie_Joy
Lovingly knitted by one of our dedicated Hospice Volunteers

Day_Care_Family_Oct_2025                                              During our Day Hospice social morning, all attendees were inspired by our inventive Care Team when craft activities included creating a wonderful array of fabric masks. Gently guided by Liz Jones our craft expert everyone set to work enthusiastically to complete the task.        Day_Care_Patients_hard_at_work           To honour Mandela Day it was unanimously decided to donate these tenderly crafted masks to a Day Care Centre.

Day_Care_All_Boxed_Up

The "Circle of Hope" Chairperson Sherrol Canning selected the Day Care, Laugh and Learn as the recipients.

The surprise box of hand crafted masks, books and goodies was gratefully received.

”CARING AND SHARING”

St Luke's Hospice West Coast is always grateful for all donations received, certain items however which cannot be used by our Hospice are handed on to needy charities who would have better use for them. We recently handed over such a donation after we uncovered a supply of small children’s nappies while making way for new stock.

      Paedspal
Manda Kanka of Paedspal Paediatric Palliative Care was happy to received them with open arms.

WEST COAST HOSPICE PURCASE  A NEW AMBULANCE STRETCHER FOR PATIENT CARE

Dr Mary Hlalele, Sister Florence and the In Patient Unit were thrilled to receive a brand new ambulance stretcher as a gift from St Luke's Hospice West Coast. This gift to St Luke's Combined Hospices will be used for patients of St Luke's needing to be transported to or from the In Patient Unit at our Central Head Office and will be for the benefit of all our fellow Community Hospices.

                   Stretcher_pic_

This new stretcher was badly needed to replace the much older version and will be put to good use by the nursing staff overseeing and caring for the transportation of St Luke's Community Hospices patients.

RAWSONS TURNING THE TOWN PINK ONCE AGAIN

Pink_Trees_1

Volunteers from St Luke's Hospice West Coast with Anél Troost assisting Rawsons Melkbosstrand in getting the ball rolling!

You can support this project by wrapping trees in your garden, pot plants, vehicle, pillars, fences, businesses etc. in pink fabric. Over the last few years the Community of Melkbosstrand was united in their positive response to the Pink Trees for Pauline Cancer Project. The purpose of this project was to create awareness to Cancer by turning towns pink and it’s time to get involved again.

Proceeds are kindly donated to Hospice West Coast by Rawsons Property Melkbosstrand.

RAWSON PROPERTIES MELKBOSSTRAND - TURNED MELKBOS PINK

St Luke’s Hospice West Coast are the beneficiaries of the PINK TREES for Pauline Project and we are most grateful to Rawson Properties in Melkbosstrand for the wonderful donation of R20679.20 presented to us from the monies raised.
Anne-Marie Evans Principal of Rawson Properties in Melkbosstrand seen here with agent Lynette De Lange, one of her team of wonderful ladies, drew attention through the Pink Trees for Pauline Project to those afflicted with cancer within the Melkbos area and beyond.

We wish to thank them for all their selfless efforts during this project and we are very grateful for this generous donation.

Not only did these ladies dedicate their time and energy over a period
of two months but they also exerted themselves physically climbing ladders to reach high structures and wrap tall trees with the bright pink fabric bought for this special project.

The local community newspaper with the help of Magriet Theron and Astrid Februarie, journalists with Tygerburger rallied to Anne-Marie's call and responded by jumping in with great enthusiasm.

They, with other staff members wrapped pot plants, offices and trees in bright pink fabric. Well done to all of them!

''SHADELITE AWNINGS'' KEEPING OUT THE HEAT

When we upgraded our offices in Hof Street Table View last year and converted the double garage into a wonderful sun filled room for our patients to enjoy their social mornings in, we did not realize that the intensity of the sun streaming in would be almost unbearable despite having had air conditioners installed.

We are very grateful therefore to Shadelite Awnings in Montague Gardens who were most generous in coming to our rescue. In no time at all they supplied and fitted a beautiful awning to filter out the harsh heat while still allowing the warm daylight to shine through. Our patients are now able to enjoy their morning visits in comfort.

THANK YOU TO ''SCHLARAFFIA AM KAP DER GUTEN HOFFNUNG"

The sixty member strong
Schlaraffia orchestra the ‘’Allschlaraffische Symphony Orchestra’’ visited Cape
Town for the first time recently at their own expense where they held a concert, the proceeds of which
went entirely to charity. Our thanks go to the Members of Schlaraffia Am Kap der Guten Hoffnung for
their most generous donation of R20600.00 to St Luke's Hospice. This society of merry gentlemen was founded way back in 1859 in Prague and now has Chapters in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, North American and Latin America as well as Thailand, Australia and in South Africa to name a few. Established by common bond of friendship and an appreciation of the arts these like-minded men meet to share in fun, enjoy each others company, and in the process give back to their communities. Their credo is ‘’Arts, Humour & Friendship’’ St Luke's Hospice West Coast is fortunate to have been chosen as a beneficiary for which we are very grateful.

The new building in Khayelitsha was formally opened at a ceremony attended by staff, donors, community  representatives and volunteers.
                                            Khayelitsha_1
Both the Patient Day Care programme and the Home Based Care operation will run from this building which was mainly funded by St Luke’s Hospice West Coast.

ST LUKE’S HOSPICE WEST COAST GETS A FACE LIFT

We are thrilled to announce that the necessary changes to our offices in Hof Street Table View have now been completed. ‘’We are looking as bright as a new pin’’.

We have recently added a storage area adjacent to our double garage for our medical equipment and the original garage has been converted into a beautiful sun filled room with large windows for our patients to enjoy their social mornings in comfort. This multipurpose room will also be utilised during our volunteer orientation courses and for various functions during the year.

The large office at the rear of the building has been divided into two separate offices for our community sisters with access via a passage to an inside store room. Our second bathroom has been updated and in the near future we hope to incorporate a hair salon for our patients while at the same time this bathroom has been converted to a disabled friendly space to accommodate patients needing the use of a wheelchair or a stroller.

The unhygienic carpets have been ripped up and replaced with brand new tiles, as has the administration and reception areas of the office thanks to the generosity of Tiletoria in Paarden Eiland who donated over a 160sq of new tiles for the purpose.

The guttering on the house which we call ''home'' has for many years needed attention. This has now been replaced and our thanks go to Longspan Gutters for this upgrade. We can now welcome the winter without any hesitation.

We would like to thank Tiletoria & Longspan Gutters sincerely for their kind contributions.
